Marco Targa was awarded his PhD in Music History and Criticism at the University of Turin. He devotes himself to the study of Italian Opera and is the author of the book Puccini e la Giovane Scuola. Drammaturgia musicale dell’opera italiana di fine Ottocento (De Sono/Albisani, 2012), to which the Prize Arthur Rubinstein of the Teatro La Fenice in Venezia was awarded.

He has published several articles in reviews and books about Italian Opera, Nineteenth Century Formenlehre and Silent Film Music. Recent publications include: Il teatro di Verdi narrato dal cinema muto, in La vera storia ci narra. Verdi narrateur. Actes du colloque international (Saint-Denis, Université Paris 8-Paris, Institut National d’Histoire de l’Art, 23-26 octobre 2013), Lucca, LIM, 2014, pp. 427-437 and La fortuna della Giovane Scuola nelle trasmissioni dell’EIAR di Torino negli anni Trenta e Quaranta, forthcoming. He has written program notes for the Teatro La Fenice in Venice and for the Ravenna Festival and he permanently collaborates with Teatro Regio in Turin in publishing the collection “I Libretti”.

He worked for Radio Classica in Milan where he hosted two broadcasts about piano music and film music. He is in the board of Associazione Wagneriana in Milan.

He graduated with honour in piano at Istituto Musicale “G. Puccini” in Gallarate and studied Composition at Conservatorio “G. Verdi” in Milan. He is amateur stargazer.
